This initiative is driven by the need for children with special needs to access specialised programs that focus on essential life skills such as social interaction and play. Students attending these sessions are form a mix of culturally diverse and low socio-economic backgrounds.
There is no government funding for this program and the cost of private therapy is beyond the means of most families.
Assumptions are often made about limitations regarding what and how students with disability will lean and what the future life opportunities will be. Underlying assumptions, frequently position students with disability as incapable or a burden, or even violent. Due to their complex care requirements, these students are often unable to engage in play and social activities.
The program’s objective is to create a safe and nurturing environment where children can learn and practice social skills tailored to their abilities. By allowing them to engage at their own pace, the program seeks to foster personal growth and enrich their overall quality of life.
